Todd second graders made their annual trek to Teatown for the “Trees are Terrific” program. The children learned that a tree operates like a factory, records history like a book, and plays an essential role in the ecosystem at each stage of its life. Through games and activities, they learned about tree anatomy and function, in addition to their important role in a forest community. They took a guided hike and used observation and comparison skills to identify trees found in the Hudson Hills and Highlands region.
Mrs. McDermott explained, “This trip allows the children to get hands–on experience as part of the seasonal changes curriculum in Science.”
