Briarcliff Middle School students Willow Horowitz and Alexandra Laguardia decided to spend some of their free time this school year giving back.
The duo organized a “Give a Kiss” Hershey kiss donation project, and by involving their peers, raised $600 for the National Children’s Cancer Society.“All of the money goes toward treatments,” said Laguardia. “We know that whatever we can contribute will make a difference.”
Each homeroom classroom received a jar in which to drop donations during the fundraising effort, said Horowitz.
“We made it a competition,” she said.
The students tackled the project independently and are already thinking up their next effort.
“I am so proud of your initiative; you prove that an individual can have an impact,” said Principal Susan Howard. “Thank you for paying it forward and making a difference.”
